We had a great time at the Columbia Earth Day Festival. Met a lot of old friends and made many new friends as the day passed. We handed out over 150 “Get Out Of Hell” cards and signed up over two dozen of new members.

MAY CALENDAR

EVERY WEDNESDAY – COLUMBIA ATHEISTS SOCIAL HOUR (or two) at the Broadway Brewery from 7:00 to about 9:00. Enjoy food (if you are hungry), drink (if you whistle needs wetting) and conversation. No minimums.

EVERY SUNDAY - SUNDAY MORNING DISCUSSION - We meet for coffee and discussion Sunday mornings at Fretboard Coffee on Artist Alley, next to the bus station, each Sunday from 10:00 AM to about noon.

MAY 1 – INTERNATIONAL LABOR DAY – While the US honors the working Joe and Jill in September, the rest of the world celebrated labor on May 1.

MAY 2 - AMERICAN EMPATHY PROJECT - If you preregistered with Americaj Humanist Association and Services for Independent Living (SIL), jooin us to deliver Senior Joy Packaging to those in the SIL Granparent's program.

MAY 4 – MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU – We honor Star War’s Day.

MAY 4 – NATIONAL DAY OF REASON – Supported by a consortium of leaders from within the community of reason, this day is to inspire the secular community to be visible and active, in order to set an example for how to effect positive change.

MAY 5 – CINCO de MAYO – This is not the Mexican day of independence, but the celebration of Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

MAY 7 – NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER – Since 1952 our government has celebrated this day of observance, designated by the United States Congress, asks people “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.” It was originally set as propaganda against those godless commies.

MAY 10 – MOTHER’S DAY – Don’t forget to honor the woman who gave birth to you or acted as your mother as you were growing up.

MAY 16 – NATIONAL BBQ DAY - Like guys need a reason to grill outdoors.

MAY 19 – MALCOLM X DAY – Celebrate the birthday of the civil rights leader has been celebrated by the state of Illinois in 2015 and Missouri as recently as 2019.

MAY 22 – HARVEY MILK DAY – Harvey Milk was a visionary civil and human rights leader who became one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977.

MAY 24 – THE INDIANAPOLIS 500 – I don’t need to say anything more for our NASCAR enthusiasts.

MAY 25 – MEMORIAL DAY – A day to honor our veterans and those who are now serving in the armed forces of the United State. Remember to thank those veterans and active service women and men for their service.
